Colloquium di Matematica: René Schoof - 30 years of Fermat's Last Theorem

Giovedì 26 Giugno alle ore 16.00, presso il Dipartimento di Matematica e Fisica (Aula M1 - Lungotevere Dante 376), il prof. René Schoof terrà il Colloquium di Matematica dal titolo "30 years of Fermat's Last Theorem".

Abstract:
In 1994 Andrew Wiles presented a proof of Fermat's Last Theorem. Actually, Wiles proved that every semi-stable elliptic curve over Q is modular, a result that is arguably of greater importance than Fermat's Last Theorem which follows as a corollary. Wiles's result can be phrased in terms of properties of the zeta function of an elliptic scheme. From that point of view it is just the tip of an iceberg.
