The course provides students with theoretical knowledge on human development in different domains (cognitive, social, emotional) and operational tools to apply that knowledge to the educational context.
Knowledge and understanding of:
- the main theoretical models on development and learning processes;
- the main theoretical models of the teaching-learning dynamics;
- the research methods used in developmental and educational psychology;
- the cognitive, social, and emotional development from infancy to early adolescence;
- the psychological processes involved in the major acquisitions of preschool and primary school children.
Applying knowledge and understanding:
- ability to analyze school situations according to theories and psychological processes;
- ability to analyze learning contexts according to theories and psychological processes.
Making judgements:
- aptitude to find connections between psychological theories and school situations;
- aptitude for interpreting pupils' needs in psychological terms;

Programma
The course introduces to the theoretical approaches and the main concepts of developmental and educational psychology. The first part aims to provide the student with the presentation of the discipline and of its methods of study, the nature of childhood, the biological and environmental factors in the development. The second part presents the different aspects of child development: social and relational, cognitive, linguistic and communicative, and emotional. The third part deals with instruction and education by referring to different theoretical perspectives. Finally, the course approaches some basic learning, such as representing, reading, writing and conceptualizing.Testi Adottati

Modalità Erogazione
The course includes lectures, supported by the use of power point slides and videos. During the lessons, moments will be dedicated to the collective discussion with the aim of bringing out students' opinions, experiences and knowledge, and to activate reflections on the application of the topics addressed to the school context. Students have also the opportunity to present to the class specific topics, agreeing with the teacher on the contents and texts. On the e-learning Formonline platform there will be an environment dedicated to the course in which the power point presentations used in the lectures will be made available, communications will be inserted, and discussion topics will be activated with sharing of materials. Some activities could take place online and using Formonline.Modalità Frequenza
Attendance not mandatory but highly recommended to better understand the content, understand how to apply it to children's life contexts, and learn specific scientific language. All material presented in class is shared on Formonline (e-learning platform) and includes audio comments and links to videos to support study. However, such material does not replace the study of the texts. All students are advised to register for the Developmental and Educational Psychology course on Formonline.Modalità Valutazione
The exam includes a written test and an oral interview, which will be held at two separate times. To be eligible for the oral, it is necessary to have passed the written. The oral interview is not compulsory. The written test consists of 30 closed-ended questions and one open-ended question. For each correct closed-ended answer, 1 point is awarded; the correct open-ended question is scored with a maximum of 2 points. The time available is 40 minutes. On-going tests will be scheduled, the details of which will be indicated on Fomonline. The written test allows to verify the acquisition of knowledge, understanding and application skills of the course content. The open written question and oral interview allow to test mastery in autonomy of judgment and specific scientific language. For students with credit recognition, a personalized program will be provided referring to the topic not carried out in the recognized exam. In this case, the written test will refer only to the planned parts of the program, and the duration of the test will depend on the number of questions (between 10 and 15).
