The first internship (carried out during the second year of the program) represents the students’ first field experience and takes place within social services and operational settings of social work. The external supervisor and the university lecturer/tutor serve as key reference figures, supporting the student in achieving the overall educational objectives, which are to:
help the student reflect on their motivations and expectations regarding their academic choice and future professional path;
foster the development of observation and reflection skills on the relational dynamics established within the social work setting — both in the helping processes with service users and in interactions with other professionals — with particular attention to the emotional dimension, through the sharing and reflection on anxieties, doubts, expectations, and emotions that may emerge during the learning experience;
promote the connection between theory and practice, based on the understanding that the internship is a learning process developed through curiosity and interest, an exploratory and research-oriented mindset, and opportunities for dialogue with the external supervisor, the university tutor/lecturer, and other students placed in different services;
strengthen teamwork and networking skills as learning methods, also through group exercises and specific activities aimed at acquiring “active education” techniques;
encourage discussion, sharing, and the attribution of meaning to situations and events encountered by the student during practical experience, with specific reference to the principles, values, methodology, and techniques of social work, as well as the organizational models of local social services.
Program of Activities
During orientation meetings and lectures, students will be introduced to the operational settings and the territorial distribution of the available services.
Specific lectures will be held on particular aspects of the internship, aimed at achieving the aforementioned objectives.
