Programma

This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive analysis of the key events and transformations that defined the 20th century, with particular emphasis on the evolution of institutions, international conflicts, and societal shifts. It will examine the dynamics underlying the reorganization of political systems, the emergence of new international balances of power, and the creation of new social structures, thereby shedding light on the processes that shaped modern societal development throughout the century. Additionally, the course aims to equip students with the necessary theoretical and methodological frameworks for interpreting significant historical developments, promoting a critical and multidisciplinary approach.

Expected Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will have:

- Developed a deep understanding of the principal political, social, and cultural transformations of the 20th century, with particular focus on ethnic and gender inequalities, as well as the intersection between economic and political power.

- Gained the ability to analyze and interpret contemporary challenges related to the evolution of democratic institutions and the rise and crisis of the welfare state, within a global and interdisciplinary context.

- Acquired the skills to compare various models of democracy and social development, examining resistance to these models and exploring potential reforms to address structural inequalities in contemporary societies.
