Acquire theoretical and practical knowledge related to observation as a technique for detecting infant behavior, with particular reference to: characteristics, theoretical perspective, types of observation, validity and reliability, techniques (narrative descriptions, coding systems, evaluation scales, questionnaires and interviews, qsort), tools for observing cognitive, communicative and linguistic, social and relational, emotional development. Furthermore, starting from this knowledge, develop the skills required for the use of observation of child behavior in educational contexts.
By the study of Observational method in developmental psychology the student will be able to achieve the following training objectives.

The exam involves the preparation of a paper in which to present an observation project which will be discussed during the oral exam session together with the contents of the exam texts. Characteristics of the paper The paper consists of an observation project which must present a description of how an observational survey will be carried out on a sample of children of any age group (nursery, nursery school and primary school). The project corresponds to the planning of observation and data collection, necessary to make the observation systematic (and not extemporaneous): therefore it must not be the report of what has been observed (and therefore the verbal tense is in the present or future). More specific instructions will be made available on Formonline and in class. The essay must be the work of the individual student, original and in-depth. Entries that are copied in whole or in part from other entries or from the internet will be invalidated. During the oral exam, the student must present his/her project and discuss it with the teacher. Supervision of the projects developed by the students will be carried out during the classes.
